Constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain

The highest and most significant legal document in the country. It consists of three constitutional documents: 1. the basic constitutional document: the decree on the succession system, 2. the first explanatory memoranda and 3. the second explanatory memoranda. The constitution consists of six chapters: 1.the state, 2. the basic elements of society, 3. general rights and duties, authorities, 4. financial affairs 5. general and 6. provisions.

The Kingdom's constitution frames the political system of Bahrain with a constitutional monarchy based on Shura (Consultative Council). This is the basis of modern political thought and the ideal of governance in Islam, based on participation of the people in the exercise of power.

National Action Charter (NAC)
National Action Charter (NAC)

A national document that contains the implementation of the aspirations of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, and the desires of the people of Bahrain. It contains general principles and main ideas, with the aim of bringing radical changes in the methodology of work and performance and modernising the country’s authorities and institutions. The national referendum saw a high turnout with 98.4% of the nation voting for the NAC.

This is considered the culmination of democratic development in Bahrain.

The National Action Charter provides a general framework for the comprehensive development process, defining the most important principles, foundations, and the goals of the development project of His Majesty the King. This forward-thinking documents sets the basic principles of the Bahraini society. It also sets out the goals and basis of governance, the basic freedoms and rights of the Bahraini citizen. Additionally, it is the foundation upon which the family, society, and NGOs are based and includes the economy, education, culture, and sciences as the rights and duties of the Bahraini citizen.

Government Forum
Government Forum

An annual high-level meeting, initiated by HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and Prime Minister. The Forum brings together leaders, decision-makers, and executive employees across the government of the Kingdom of Bahrain, to discuss main topics, challenges, and future directions, to enhance and develop efficiency and quality of performance, within the framework of the Government Program that is in line with the Bahrain Vision 2030.

Economic Development Board
Economic Development Board

The first stop for companies to establish and manage their projects in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as it includes a team with vast experience, profound knowledge and distinguished resources to offer companies a strong foothold in the Bahrain economy.

After the launch of the Economic Vision 2030, the Board initiated a program for institutional economic reform, in line with the objectives of the Vision. EDB’s work and coordination with the relevant ministries resulted in the groundwork of the first national economic strategy. This is a roadmap to achieve this Economic Vision, which represents a comprehensive government vision for society and economy, centred around three basic principles: competitiveness, fairness, and sustainability.

Since its establishment in 2000, the Board has worked in cooperation with the government and a group of partners, to implement several major initiatives that have raised the level of performance of the national economy. This has been achieved by focusing significantly on raising economic competitiveness, increasing productivity, and developing a skilled workforce in Bahrain.

The EDB aims to attract strategic investors and business partners to the Kingdom, cultivate and develop a base of highly skilled talent in the Kingdom's diverse and vibrant community of locals and expatriates, and increase Bahraini tourism.

Open Data Portal

An online platform that periodically provides advanced data and features in the fields of analysis, future visualisation and supports reports with statistical data for a specific time period. Furthermore, it will assist in measuring national and international statistical indicators, clarifying them with charts and plots for the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The data supports decision-making in the business sector and government entities, in addition to encouraging innovation in the field of application development, market analysis, and identification of prevailing or future trends in the sectors of economy, health, education, sports, environment, finance, tourism, industry, trade, labour force, electricity, oil and gas, geographical data and social statistics.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The sustainable development file in the Kingdom of Bahrain is managed by the National Information Committee, headed by the Cabinet Affairs Minister and members from across all government entities. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are UN’s 2030 Agenda and were adopted by world leaders in 2015. Thus far, 78% of the SDGs 2030 are integrated in the current Government Program. The SDGs or Global goals are built on the success of the 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Bahrain was one of the first countries to succeed in achieving all the MDGs in 2010, five years ahead of the 2015 deadline and approved by the United Nations. The submission of the Kingdom of Bahrain's first voluntary report was reviewed at a high-level political forum of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) endorses its commitment to achieving the SDGs.

The Kingdom of Bahrain is aligned with the general framework of the SDGs 2030 particularly those related to people, the planet, prosperity, peace and justice. Accordingly, the SDGs are firmly placed at the centre of Bahrain’s national development agenda.

The Gazette first came to light in 1948, under the name “Official Newsletter” before taking its current name in 1969.
